Fun Easter Crafts Using Halos

As much as I love chocolate, I have zero willpower and could happily devour a chocolate Easter bunny all on my own without batting an eye. So when we get packages of candy or the girls receive it from some activity or event, we stash it in the cabinet where they can help themselves, but it’s out of sight for me. It seems like every time I turn around, there’s another holiday that refills our chocolate and candy coffers and we often end up throwing old stuff away to make room for the new treats. This, combined with our love of board games, inspired me to create a list of 10 non-candy Easter basket ideas to expand on the concept of shifting the focus of the Easter basket from food to fun.

We recognize that not all parents want to be adding candy to the basket. To help ease parents’ minds, I thought I would toss out another sweet idea: add Halos instead. Every kid I know loves them and at a recent event for Kennedy, the kids preferred Halos as a snack over many of the other options. So why not create Easter baskets that have a mix healthy snacks and non-food items?! We put together a basket that included some Halos, a fun Silly Squeaks toy and a couple of games. This particular basket has Super Kitty Bug Slap from Steve Jackson Games and Zooscape from Tasty Minstrel Games, but there are several others such as Tutti Fruitti or Yogi from Gigamic that are compact and great for families.

Not only can you feel confident adding Wonderful Halos to an Easter basket, you can also paint Halos in addition to or instead of eggs. You can also incorporate them into other Easter crafts.

We used a couple craft kits to give our Halos a festive look. These crafts are designed for eggs so we had to improvise to get them to fit the Halos. As an example, the kit that included a chick, bunny and lamb required us to glue to foam down then secure it with a rubber band while it dried. Once it was done, it was adorable!

Another craft involved different animals hiding in the grass. The foam grass wrap would have fit an egg perfectly, but Halos are a bit chubbier. So we used two kits, using the self-adhesive to attach the two grass pieces together then cut off the excess. We separated the grass and cut a few pieces off it to give it additional character. We also decided to tape two on top off each other because, hey, why not? After adhering the self-adhesive flowers to the grass, we moved on to giving the critter a face and hands.

These turned out really cute and the premade kits would make it easy for little kids as long as you knew what you needed to improvise on in advance and are prepared for it.

If you are looking for snacks for Easter parties at school, these are fun and non-denominational snack/craft combination. These laced baskets are classy and would be excellent gifts for teachers or even classmates. Personally, I think students would get a kick out of the Halos Bunny Pouch or cute Easter chick even more.
