Do Flowers Make You Smile? Me too.
It’s been an emotional few months for me. I knew it was coming but nonetheless wasn’t ready for it. My parents, who have lived on the same 10-acre homestead since 1974 decided it was time to downsize. It had become a lot of work to maintain and was really eating into their ability to do all the other things they enjoy. You may recall how I took my dad on a VIP experience inside the ropes at a PGA tournament because he loves golf so much. Well, for the past couple years I don’t think he’s been able to golf nearly as much as he would have liked because when the weather was nice, he has spent it tending to the acreage. To make a long story short(ish), the place I knew as home for pretty much my entire life is no longer a place I can retreat. To say I have shed a few tears since they announced they had an offer on the house would be an understatement.
They’re happy with selling their old house and looking forward to the next step in their adventure and I’m happy for them. Unfortunately, their new home won’t be available for another four or five months. So “home” for my parents is an apartment with the bare basics as everything else is packed up and in storage. It probably reminds them of when they first got married… except with cable, internet and indoor plumbing. (Not positive about that indoor plumbing part. I’ve never actually asked them so I’m just making that assumption. My dad walked uphill both ways to school barefoot in the snow all year so anything is possible.) They’ll reside in temporary housing until their new home is available and it reminded me of something really important. Scott and I put together multiple guides filled with gift ideas for all ages and interests. But it’s all stuff. We’ve mentioned in the past the value of also gifting experiences instead of things, and that’s still something we strongly encourage. Then there’s the grey area in the middle… things that are a cross between an experience and something physical.
Flowers. They’re pretty. They’re simple. They come in all kinds of shapes, colors, types and sizes to fit a variety of budgets. They don’t need technical expertise or even wrapping paper. AND… they don’t add to the clutter. Best of all, I don’t know anyone that doesn’t smile when they receive flowers as a gift
These lovely pieces of floral artwork can be placed on a coffee table, a counter, a mantle, among other holiday decorations or as a centerpiece at a dining table. Mine finds a home for itself on our dining table where I’m able to enjoy it all day while I work at my desk in the kitchen area.
I’ve heard some people complain that flowers don’t last long enough to feel like they made a good investment. Those people haven’t thought it through. You don’t hear people saying that about a restaurant gift card! One of the things that I found interesting is that bouquets generally last about two weeks. However, I’ve received flowers from Teleflora a couple times and each has lasted about three weeks. When they are delivered, they have a mixed assortment of blossoms in different states of open. In other words, some were in full bloom, others hadn’t started blossoming at all and some are in the middle. While this adds character to the bouquet itself, I think it helps add life to it as well. At around the two-week mark, I usually remove the flowers that were in full bloom upon delivery thus giving my bouquet a fresher look, helping to extend the life and usefulness.
I was extremely pleased with my Teleflora bouquet and would still be enjoying it, but I decided to disassemble to get photos of the “vase” it came in. I wanted you to see how adorable the ornament decanter with a nested lid that it came in. I’ll likely clean it up and hide holiday candies in it. Sshhh, don’t tell anyone in my family! To them, it’s a decoration for the coffee table!
Are you baffled for ideas for that hard-to-purchase person on your list? For someone who will be snowbirding after the holidays pass? Maybe someone who struggles with holiday depression and could use a pick-me-up in advance of the holidays? Perhaps for someone who doesn’t need *things* but would appreciate a lovely bouquet? Consider the gift of flowers. Teleflora offers a large assortment of arrangements and plants but during the holidays, they offer several bouquets for Christmas gifting. The colors are festive, the additional filler pieces are fun and the containers set the tone. Whether it’s an ornament decanter like mine, a traditional centerpiece display, classic Woodland Winter Bouquet, Thomas Kinkade’s Family Tree Bouquet, one with a teddy bear or flowers delivered in a cute little sleigh, there’s something for each personality on your holiday list. Visit Teleflora on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for updates on their latest promotions! Order to have it delivered within the next week so they can enjoy the flowers as a centerpiece (or hidden candy jar) while entertaining over the holidays! We’re so excited about this promotion that we’re running a 1-week giveaway to ensure one of our readers can order one of the holiday bouquets!
