What We Watched: Bullet Train
Remember last month when I said that the movie trailer for NOPE wasn’t what inspired us to see the movie? Sometimes that happens. In the case of NOPE, we were lucky that our friends had it on their watch list so we agreed to join them at it. To our surprise, it was worth the price of admission. That isn’t always the case. There are some movies where we see the trailer and we’re like, “Mark the calendar because we’re seeing it.” Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt which was top on our list of movies to see in August was EXACTLY that. We knew from the minute we watched the trailer that it would be a must see – and not just one to add to a watch list and maybe wait until it hit streaming services. We wanted to see it on the big screen. Watch the trailer and see if you’re as inspired:
As you may have noticed from the trailer, Bullet Train is a movie taking place on the world’s fastest train. While there’s backstory that takes place on stable ground, there’s plenty of excitement on the train. The story revolves around Brad Pitt’s character, but a plethora of other characters get a lot of screen time as well.
I was sold on Bullet Train because the trailer looked hilarious, but the other characters brought a lot more to it than I expected. Usually when there’s a main person who a movie revolves around, I’m pretty invested in them and see the others as disposable. Like I wouldn’t be upset if something happened to them. Bullet Train gave the additional characters enough personality that I found myself rooting for them.
But let’s talk about the fact that this movie is about assassins. Despite the theme, there is a lot of action and plenty of comedy built into the script. While it wouldn’t be out of line to assume it means people are going to die, the quick wit keeps it light. While we brought our kids to see Deadpool, we only did so after seeing it ourselves first. I would highly recommend you implement that plan if you want to bring your kids to see it.
There are some movies to watch in September, but make sure they’re behind Bullet Train on your priority list. It may be good when it is eventually available to stream, but honestly… you’ll want to see it on the big screen.
