Back to School with “No” Vitamins
Okay, before you freak out… hear me out. I’m not saying don’t take vitamins. What I’m referring to are the extras that don’t need to be in vitamins. When I was a kid, my mom used to purchase vitamins from a specialty store. We weren’t wealthy but she spent her money wisely to ensure our family had the things we needed. I don’t remember taking them during the summer but I do remember having them all through the school year. Our whole family took vitamins, not just my brothers and me. My favorite were the chewable Vitamin C tablets because they were cherry flavored with no funky vitamin taste. The multi-vitamins had a unique taste, one that I eventually came to associate with vitamins in general. It wasn’t horrible, just different. I don’t remember ever having trouble taking vitamins back then despite the vitamin-taste.
That was before they became a discount store commodity. Something you would see hundreds of varieties of at grocery, club and drug stores. For my adult life, most that I have tried have been commercial and have a less than appealing flavor. I resorted to taking adult gummy vitamins because, to be honest, I don’t mind the taste them. With hectic back to school scheduling including more than our share of unbalanced meals, it’s important to take vitamins and supplements. Puritan’s Pride sent us a back to school package that included Women’s One Daily Mutivitamins, One Daily Men’s Multivitamin, Vitamin B-12 500 mcg and Omega-3 Fish Oil 100 mg.
It wasn’t until I tried these that I realized the difference between these and my prior vitamins. When I looked at the package, I noticed something interesting: “No… no… no… no…”
It was amazing to see Puritan’s Pride vitamins so prominently boasting “No” on their bottles… as in no artificial flavors, preservatives, sugar, milk, lactose, soy, gluten, wheat, yeast or shellfish. When we get ready for a new school year, we are inundated with a list of things that aren’t allowed at school due to classmate allergies. We constantly read online about gluten-free cooking, nut allergies, soy and milk intolerances. We are mindful of having healthy foods whenever possible, getting enough sleep, getting exercise and taking vitamins. I’ve never stopped to think about the little details.
Then I realized these vitamins from Puritan’s Pride taste a lot like the specialty ones my mom used to get for us when we were kids. Not only am I getting myself ready for back to school along with my kids but I’m also having a trip down memory lane. All in the name of vitamins…

Who in your family takes vitamins?
Both my husband and me take vitamins
My whole family takes vitamins, daily!
I know nothing about vitamins, children or children taking vitamins. Quite eye opening stuff!
Cheers
Uck reading this post I realized I forgot to take mine! I will have to check out Puritan pride vitamins, especially the one a day women 🙂
My health coach just put me on Puritan’s Pride, I really like them.
I am super bad with remembering to take vitamins. My husband on the other hand is great about it. I will have to pass this on to him.
I take vitamins too. However, I’ve never looked to see if they contained or didn’t contain those items listed above. Now I have to inquire! Thanks for sharing!
Love the No’s!
Thanks for sharing – I never noticed all the extra ingredients in my vitamins before this.
My daughter and I take vitamins. I am anemic and my iron is always low.
I take vitamins daily, my pill collection seems to continue to grow as even the complete ones never are complete enough. Between the heavy metals and other fillers a shopper definitely needs to be weary of the type of pills they are willing to pop.
All of us. my husband, and 2 kid’s and I.
I used to be VERY good about taking my vitamins — but lately not so much! When the budget gets tight, I tend to put buying them on the back burner.
My wife, my son and I all take vitamins and supplements daily.
In addition to a multivit I’ve started to use turmeric in food on a regular basis, and feel far more bright eyed and bushy tailed!
With flu season, this year, hitting so hard, it’s important to be as proactive as possible. Thanks for these great tips.
