Nintendo Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics Video Game Overview

When my parents first started teaching my sister and I board games, we were given some of the basics, such as Backgammon, Mancala, Yahtzee, and so forth. Most were simple and easy to learn as a way to introduce us to a new family hobby. I can’t remember how long it has been since we began, but getting into tabletop gaming was one of the best decisions my family ever made. If it weren’t for this new hobby, my dad probably wouldn’t have thought of or designed Hues and Cues. Because of this, I have a new appreciation for all those classic games that got us where we are today.

Since I love playing every kind of game Nintendo has to offer, they sent a copy of Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics for me to check out. As you might guess from the title, it wasn’t just one game. There are 51 different options all in the same system! Consisting of my old favorites like Four-In-A-Row, Dots And Boxes, Checkers and more, Clubhouse Games gave back those simple, relaxing games that I played not only while I was younger, but can break out and play in a heartbeat.

The way something looks is always something that I notice first when it comes to a game. I quickly judge based on the fine detail and how much effort was put into the design. My favorite thing about Clubhouse Games is the graphics. Just the style itself is enough to draw you in. There is something about how the figurines move, the sound effects and the music (composed by Toshiki Aida, check out his other music in any of the Mario Party games) that just sends waves of calmness through my veins. I found myself playing Clubhouse Games for HOURS as soon as I opened the package!

Most of the games you recognize will take but a minute or two to play, which is super fast. Others can take a little longer, because they deal with cards and are generally unfamiliar. Take the card game Takoyaki, for example (my sister taught me this game under a different name, which we called Garbage, so the new name didn’t ring any bells until I actually played it). In this game, you and your opponent are rushing to flip over the ten cards in front of you. But in order to do so, you must draw a card from the deck with a number you have not already flipped over. Depending on the number on your card, you flip that number card over in front of you, replacing it and revealing a different card. If this new card has another number you don’t have, you repeat the process. Any Kings, Queens or Jacks are useless and act as duds. Any Joker is a wild card, and can be used to replace any unflipped card. Easy to learn and fun to play, in a matter of minutes!

One of my favorite activities to do (other than playing video games) is playing and creating music. Most times, I separate the two from each other, but this time, I don’t have to! At the end of the page, you can find the Piano. It’s not just a regular piano, though! Here, you can play an octave of a piano, or flip your whole Switch upside down and play on a Synthesizer! You can also detach your JoyCons and use them as maracas! That’s not all. If your friends also have Clubhouse Games, you can line all of your Switches up and play on one GIANT piano together, and use the JoyCons as Drums, Maracas, Tambourines and more! Rearrange all of your Switches again in a two by two pattern, and you and you friends can play on an electric organ. As a music person, I can proudly say that this portion of the game is very impressive.

If you’re wanting to get away from your family or friends after playing some exhilarating party games such as Hues and Cues or Happy Salmon, the easy and chilling game Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics will help break your attention away from the crowd. There really is so much to do with this game, and it is not hard at all to stay focused and get lost in this wonderland for hours at a time. I absolutely love this game through and through, and I have no complaints. Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics is relaxing, fun-filled, and perfect for a rainy day. I recommend curling up in a blanket with some tea or coffee, setting up some dim lights and putting this game in your Switch. It’s the scene of a perfect night!
