On This Day We Reflect
As the girls get older, our schedule gets more chaotic and along with the end of the school year comes a whole host of activities. This year is extra-unusual since our school year doesn’t wrap up for another two weeks (thanks, Mother Nature). However, some things will go on as planned including the school graduation and the freshmen performing at a Memorial Day service honoring our local veterans.
For many, Memorial Day weekend is synonymous with the end of the school year, picnics, graduations and yard sales. During our visit to Washington D.C. a couple years ago, we focused on talking to our daughters about the sacrifices so many made that we may enjoy the freedoms we do. I believe that experience helped them appreciate the significance of this holiday. For us, it’s a day to reflect and recognize the sacrifices so many have made in service to our country. On this – and every – Memorial Day, we hang our flag and are thankful for all the men and women of our armed services who have given their lives to protect our rights.
To all of our readers, have a safe Memorial Day. May you, too, find time to reflect on how lucky we all are.
