Just a Walk in the Park
A couple of years ago we were invited to the Disney Social Media Moms gathering in Orlando. We had been in prior years, so we had a good idea of what to expect. One thing I remember is wearing athletic sneakers with socks and my feet getting hot and sweaty. This time I thought I had the solution…boy was I wrong.
I had just gotten a new pair of boat shoes for the summer along with some no-show socks. My train of thought was that these would be cooler on my feet while still providing the comfort and support needed for the miles of walking through Disney’s parks. As an added bonus they would still be professional enough to wear to the evening parties and dinners so I would only need to pack the one pair. Three days into the visit and I was down for the count with raging blisters on both feet.
This year we once again were invited to attend the conference and I was determined to find a better solution. I had already resigned myself to the fact that I would need more than one pair of shoes – one for the parks and one for the events. I settled on my old running shoes for the long walks on the paved roads of Magic Kingdom, and they would also work for wetter rides in Animal Kingdom since they were my old pair and I didn’t care if they were ruined by water.
I still wanted something comfortable (and semi-professional) for the gatherings and athletic shoes would just not do. I began looking at nicer sneaker options and came across a set that had a feature I hadn’t seen before in this style of shoe – a memory foam insole!
Every sneaker I’ve ever seen of this style has always just had a flat foam insole. I’m sure it helps keep the cost down, but does little for arch support and comfort. The Lugz Habit W.C. line promised “all day comfort and style” which was exactly what I was in the market for. They would be my new Disney shoe.
They arrived a week or so before we were to leave, so I tested them out around town to make sure I’d remain blister-free. I was pleasantly surprised at the comfort when wearing them for longer durations and the fit was spot-on. They have a padded collar (the area you put your foot into) that gives them the feel of a much beefier shoe.
My only complaint was the heel counter (the upper part of the back of the shoe) tended to fold over when inserting my foot. A shoe horn would fix this, but who has one handy when putting on sneakers? I just made a mental note to be attentive when dressing so as to not ruin them by folding it over too much.
But the real question is how did they perform at Disney? One word – fantastic. During the day I would wear my previously-mentioned running shoes in the park, and then change into these sneakers for late-night dinners and dancing. Paired with jeans, khakis or shorts, they were a match all the time. The memory foam insoles did exactly as promised and kept my feet blister-free and ready to dance the night away (for those of you that know me, you know that is tongue-in-cheek). I easily logged 2-3 miles in them each evening.

I know someone who’ll love these sneakers… 😉 thanks for sharing them with us!
I wear sneakers for long days on my feet!! <3
Those shoes look awesome. I think my hubby would like them. Hopefully that heel issue will get easier as you wear them more.
These look like perfect walking shoes for my hubby! I like to wear a walking sandal when we are out.
These would look great on my fiance’. I love a comfy sneaker when I am going to be on my feet a long time.
For long days walking? Walking shoes! LOL yes, well padded and proper arch support walking shoes. Or you end up with sore feet. These shoes look so nice. Why humans put their feet into shoes that ruin them, I do not know. Are we intelligent or not? I despair. It is hard to find true good shoes, wide enough toe boxes so you do not give yourself bunions.
very cute! those are adorable
In summer I wear rubber sandals that are very comfortable.
I’ve never been to a conference. YET! I do totally intend to go to one though, at some point. I like the shoes. Lugz is a good brand. 🙂
They are really good looking sneakers. It’s sometimes really hard to find a comfortable pair of walking around shoes. Especially for a place like Disney when you are on your feet all.day.long.
Nikes, tennies
Those shoes are what’s up
I wear sneakers on days that I’m going to be on my feet all day
Those do look very comfortable, as well as stylish! I’ve also had the misfortune of wearing the wrong shoes for the wrong location, and suffered the consequences. So I agree that it really is essential to know ahead of time about the performance and comfort level of the shoes.
They look like nice sturdy shoes
sneakers or running shoes
They look good. I wear denim sand-shoes all summer and find them very comfortable with my specially made inserts beneath my sole.
I wear the good ol’ sneakers! 🙂
If I am on my feet or walking most of the day I have a pair of old sneakers I wear. They’ve seen better days but more comfortable than anything else.
These shoes look great. Good pics of them. You make them look comfy. Hubby use to wear sneakers.
I wear my comfy sandals any chance I get or else I am barefoot!
I almost always wear my Nikes for long work days.
My husband likes Lugz. I haven’t found anything that really works for me. Maybe I should try Lugz too.
If I am going to be on my feet all day I like to wear some good quality comfortable sneakers that have good arch support 🙂
