Out of this World: Guardians of the Galaxy
For several years, we have taken the girls to comic book shows and let them pick out a stack of comics to read. We saw it as an opportunity to encourage their interest in reading but also to introduce them to new a new genre of reading material. If you’ve been following along, you’re no stranger to the fact we are a superhero family. That is where we started.
DH and I had been waiting forever for the time to be right to really immerse the girls. It only took one movie to get the them to realize that movies based around a hero and a villain are pretty awesome. Once the girls developed an interest in Marvel, it snowballed. We found ourselves backtracking to the first movies in the Marvel Universe (and beyond) and working our way systematically forward to ensure the back stories were built properly for the girls. Series and sequels of movies including The Fantastic Four, Hulk, X-Men, Thor, Captain America, Spider-Man (and subsequent reboots), Iron Man and more. We were consistently careful to watch them in the order intended. As an example, Iron Man needed to come before the Avengers but Iron Man 3 after. We even made sure we watched the Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series in order with Captain America: The Winter Soldier breaking into the middle of the series. Every storyline was where it should be with no spoilers from seeing them out of order.
Then we went to C2E2 and heard Stan Lee speak. That was an amazing experience to hear him tell about his life and how the characters came to life (and almost didn’t!) During the interview, his entourage regularly stepped up to shush him about giving away information from a yet-to-be released movie. I cannot tell you how excited we were when he vaguely spilled details about his cameo “with a very pretty woman” in Guardians of the Galaxy. “…do not understand what it was or why I did it..” Have you seen the trailer yet?
The dinner time conversation around our house is kind of geeky with discussions of who did what, why and where the series is headed. Our latest batch of “I wonder” revolves around Guardians of the Galaxy and how it will be entangled with the other characters and story lines in the Marvel Universe. Will S.H.I.E.L.D. play a part? We cannot wait to see it. How about you?
Looks like a really fun movie. I know my bunch will be excited to see it.
I like how they all intertwine storylines. Great movie.
I know Debbie …. too bad we did not live closer to each other…we could make it a girls night out seeing the movie!
that’s one of my fave things about marvel movies!! and they will hopefully keep going with it so we can enjoy the hotties– i mean the stories- for years to come
We are also kind of geeky and that’s okay. But I will give you credit that you made sure to watch everything in the correct order. Wow! We have been to Comic-Com and loved it. We are planning on seeing Guardians of the Galaxy when it comes out. Both my kids are excited for it. They love anything Marvel.
Looks like a fun movie, one my kids would probably be interested in as well!
This looks like a movie my nephew would really enjoy.
Honestly myself personally I am not too found of sci-fi or comicbook stuff. I am happy to hear your girls are into it a lot! I’m sure this movie will do really well when it comes out!
I am sure I will be seeing this with my boys. Seems like it would be right up their alley!
Oh my goodness, I know someone that will be very or is actually already very excited about this. With 3 girls I ‘don’t get it’… but this friend is mine is obsessed!
I can’t wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy, it looks like such a fun movie! I love that there’s a talking raccoon! LOL!
Wow! I bet the kids had a blast listening to Stan Lee speak! I bet my kids would love this too. I’m a huge movie nerd!
I have two girls that aren’t ready for this just yet, but I may have to check it out with hubby. I saw the trailer in the theater and it was pretty funny.
I like that you’ve introduced your kiddos to comic books. They were so popular when I was a kid. I’m glad to see they still have a fan group (and I know the fan group is huge).
Sounds like you had a great experience and how cool for your family to get to hear Stan Lee speak. I am sure he has a great deal of passion for which he speaks of. This looks like a movie that many people will be excited to see!
WOW, what a great experience to hear the amazing Stan Lee! I hope we get to see him one day, a super hero genius!
That looks really interesting! And it’s so cool that you can share the Marvel Universe with the whole family!
I’m not into superheroes at all but I love that your family is and that allows for engaging dinner conversation!
I’m going to share this with my husband. He’d love it. He’s currently watching all of the X-Men movies in order (our local video store, of all places, had a deal on renting 5 movies for $5.)
I’m so excited for this movie to come out. I laugh every time I see the previews. I would have loved to be there for that Stan Lee interview!
My husband would love this. Thanks for sharing!
My son and grandson will definitely be watching that movie. Nice blog!
Looks like a really awesome movie! 🙂
I actually saw the trailer for this yesterday when I went to go see Malecifient. I am not sure how I feel about it. My hubby with probably make me go either way.
This looks like something that we will definitely be seeing. It’s so cool that you got to see Stan Lee speak.
We saw the previews for this movie and hubby wants to see it. We may make this our movie night.

This sounds good!
This is the first i have heard of this.I think i would like to see it and i am sure my kiddies would love it too.
I haven’t heard of this movie yet, but it sounds like one that my husband might enjoy. I may have to surprise him and take him to it on a date night!
I have not heard of this show yet, this is a result of blogging! I will have to check it out, I need to learn to put the computer away.
These comic book shows really bring in some huge crowds. I think a lot of people still love comics even though they are now adults.
I am excited for Guardians of the Galaxy! The previews have got me interested.
I’m not much of a comic book person, but my son is. We need to watch these movies together.
I honestly don’t really know a darn thing about this other than what you just said here. But I do love superhero movies so I’m sure I’ll see it!
That movie looks to cute and it’s definitely something I go watch.
Now I know the other half is so excited for this, he is a huge Marvel fan 🙂 x
My kids are go into this! They have already asked if I can take them to see this when it comes out.
I think this movie is one my husband wants to see, infact I know it is
I’m relatively new to the whole Marvel universe, but I do know it’s a fun place to be! And yes, I’m looking forward to seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy, too.
I have just started to hear a bit about it, so I’m happy to read this here. We’re big Marvel fans, so I have no doubt we’ll see it. 🙂
My son wants to see this movie! Well, so do I! 🙂 So it will work out!
I think I know what the hubs wants to watch when it comes out! That is cool that you got to hear Stan Lee talk 🙂
My son has just recently gotten into Calvin and Hobbs. I’m thinking he’s going to be a big comic strips fan. I think he’s a little young for this but when he gets older I’m sure he’d love it. He and his sister already love movies.
I am guessing my son will be talking about watchinieg this pretty soon. Looks like a great movie
Well my DH and my two girls are crazy about comics and comic characters. I just asked him if he was interested in seeing this movie and he said yes.
This comes out the day after my birthday, I am so excited for it. I have been waiting for this since interviewing Chris Pratt last year at an event LOL
Wow this seems like a pretty cool movie for the family!!!!!
