We’re Getting Gorgeous in New York City
It’s a big commitment to attend a conference in New York. Even if you can land a good airfare, there are still a lot of other hefty expenses. Even sharing a room with other bloggers still means you are committing to a sizable investment. Despite the costs, we decided this year that we would do things a little different. We opted to make it a family trip. There were a few activities that Scott and the kids could participate in along with me so we figured, “Why not?”
One of the events we were given permission for them to attend was Getting Gorgeous. Their events are generally focused around beauty and wellness. I’m always happy to learn about whatever cool beauty and lifestyle brands Audrey and Vera are working with while getting a back massage and have my makeup or nails done. Being able to experience all of it with my 10-year-old fashionista made this even more special.
I’ve known Audrey and Vera for several years and have a great deal of respect for what they do. As expected, this year’s summer Getting Gorgeous function was well organized and a lot of fun.
The title sponsor was Restylane Silk. They were doing makeup touch-ups and offered details on how to get gorgeous lips. Among the list of exhibitors were Stokke, BALI, Kodak, Trollbeads, Chobani, Liquid Oxygen, KeVita, Cocktail Caviar, Spa Chicks on the Go and The Backyard Food Company.
Miss K had her nails done by Spa Chicks on the Go, then her makeup done by the team in the Restylane Silk Beauty Lounge. She even had a back massage while I was getting the scoop on some new releases from Kodak.
We made a Trollbeads bracelet, I helped myself to some (OMG where can I get it in my hometown) delicious spirited root beer from Not Your Father’s Root Beer. I had one. Wish I had taken a few extras to enjoy later. I don’t drink traditional beer these days, but my love of Root Beer made this one a sure winner.
At the Chobani booth, kids (and adults) were able to make a lunchbox and grab some yogurt to snack on. On the other side of the room, The Backyard Food Company was serving up finger foods. They are based on the east coast, but their tasty creations are available at Whole Foods. I’ll have to pick some up next time I’m near a Whole Foods!
There were several other things to participate in while at Getting Gorgeous. BALI Intimates was offering bra fittings and allowed us to select a new one to order that will be shipped to us. I couldn’t pass that offer up because BALI is my favorite brand of bra. I actually special order them from J.C. Penney if they don’t have them in stock. Can’t wait to try out the new one they had on display!
Scott and Miss M mingled around a bit, made a personalized lunchbox at the Chobani booth and chatted with the folks at Liquid Oxygen. Although we haven’t tried it yet, we received a sample of Liquid Oxygen to test. It is a non-abrasive multi-step process that I’m anxious to see if works on our sensitive skin.
Scott and I reconnected long enough to try Cocktail Caviar. I insisted he try it because it was fantastic. No, those aren’t real fish eggs. It’s alcohol that is modified to look like caviar. I’ve never tried anything like them, but if I see them again, I’m going to indulge. Positively delicious.
The event gave me the opportunity to meet old blogging friends and introduce them to my family. It also provided me with the chance to connect with some really cool brands. Audrey and Vera don’t just host cool events. They also host Twitter parties, LiveStream and Periscope. Did you know they are also on TLC’s #WhatSheSaid?
What exhibitor at the Getting Gorgeous event would you want to visit first?
