If I’m Scratching My Head, I’m Thinking.

Disclosure

I have a love/hate relationship with my hair. I love the natural color and curl. I hate that the color has decided to show my age and the sometimes lovely waves are frizzy when I fail to use a leave-in conditioner. Unfortunately, sometimes I get in a rush and put it on unevenly or get it on my scalp. What this does is cause my head to itch like crazy. Even if I wash it, I still have ramifications of the itchiness. When I was young, I often used dandruff shampoo to address the itching but in hindsight, I think it was a reaction to the hair care products I was using.

Every so often, I decide to use a dandruff shampoo to help with the itchiness. It usually takes the edge off some but it burns and I positively hate the smell. If you have ever used, opened or been around someone who used a dandruff shampoo, you know exactly what smell I’m referring to. So I end up washing and rinsing then washing with another shampoo before conditioning. Shampoos strip the natural oils from hair in the process of cleaning it which is why conditioning is so important. Since I already have a problem with frizz, this process of double washing doesn’t help the situation any. At all. Hello frizz.

That smelly, burning, frizziness may be a thing of the past for me though. I recently tested out a new anti-itch shampoo and conditioner from Dr. Marder. Like other shampoos, it left my hair feeling clean but also feeling stripped of oils. For me, that is normal. What isn’t normal is the smell. Or should I say the lack of smell. I think I was so surprised by this odorless realization that it took a few minutes for me to notice that the shampoo had soothed my itchy scalp. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. No strong medicinal odor AND a head that stops itching? Amazing.

Since it does like other shampoos and left my hair needing a bit of moisture, I used the matching Dr. Marder conditioner. It, too, soothed my scalp. Did it condition my hair? That I’m not so confident about. I decided to go a day without leave in conditioner but realized that was a mistake. Like a zebra can’t change its stripes; my hair handles best with a leave-in conditioner. If I had hair that wasn’t so fine and a severe case of itchiness, I would certainly think this would be a great option. It’s a 2-step process so I’m guessing the conditioner isn’t just about conditioning the hair but also has something to do with how the scalp is treated. Who knows… I just know I need to use a leave-in conditioner as usual.

  1. I have the same problems with my hair. I have healthy thick curly hair but I’ve had problems with itchy scalp pretty much since my teen years. And again I would occassionally need to use a dandruf/itch shampoo to keep it under control. Some hair products make it worse so there’s only certain brands I can use. I will take a look for these because I really don’t care for the way dandruff shampoos leave my hair less curly than usual and dry feeling.

  2. Raffle copter is too long. It is a lot to ask of people to spend their time at that. Most people win nothing. I usually only do a few and then stop. I have a lot of work to do in life.

  3. I hate how annoying and distracting an itchy scalp can be. It really takes away from whatever you are doing.

  4. I hate that it`s always a constant annoyance and it`s also embarrassing!! I love to get some help and these products sound so good.Thank you for this opportunity to win. would
