Break Out of a Rut with These Boredom Busters
Is anyone else counting down the days until we can go outside without 15 layers of clothing? My girls are school-aged so we don’t have the emotional strains that come with being cooped up inside during horrible winter months. Well, we don’t have that issue with them at least. Scott and I are definitely going stir crazy and are ready for some fresh air. Knowing that escaping the indoors is a couple months away, we’re constantly on the lookout for ways to break the tension and monotony without relying on a screen.
With that in mind, we’re headed back to Paula Sands Live this afternoon and are excited to be able to feature some fun ideas for Boredom Busters. We gave a lot of thought to it and came up with suggestions for both kids and adults. Because, really, we ALL get kind of bored when we’re stuck inside.
HP Sprocket 2-in-1
Kids have a natural interest in social media, taking selfies and snapping pictures of their friends. Moms take pictures of their kids at sporting events, extra-curricular activities and during life’s landmarks. Or just because. Some people take the time to scrapbook but most people have only a fraction of their photos printed out. With the Sprocket 2-in-1 from HP, kids can become budding photographers with the instant gratification of high quality photos on the spot. Parents can capture moments to add to the fridge, share with family or include in a scrapbook.
Purrrlock Holmes Furriarity’s Trail Game
We’re always a fan of breaking up the boredom by playing games. Whether it’s a single-player puzzle game, a 2-player game or something that accommodates multiple people, games come in all shapes, sizes and themes. We enjoy games like Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarity’s Trail from IDW Games for a number of reasons. As we explained in our Purrrlock Holmes overview last year, it’s a cooperative game which means everyone loses or wins as a group. But this is unique in that one person can claim the ultimate win by going above and beyond.
Coloring Books
From our childhood, we’re presented with the opportunity to express our creativity by drawing and coloring. Somewhere along the line, kids turn to adults and grow out of this calming hobby. But why? There are a wealth of coloring books on the market that allow us to revisit our childhood. One example is The Princess Bride: As You Wish – Adult Coloring Book from IDW Publishing. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the classic movie, this coloring book is filled with iconic phrases from the film. Sit down by yourself or with your children and kick boredom to the curb by coloring.
Positivity Rocks
Last summer we shared details on how a small gesture – and a rock – could make a big difference. We introduced you to the concept of positivity rocks which are rocks that have been painted and left in public areas for strangers to find. Painting rocks not only is an excellent idea for breaking up boredom but it also leaves a trail of positive feelings in its wake. Create an adorable pet ladybug, an inspirational phrase or your favorite character. You’re limited only by your imagination. This isn’t an expensive project either and can be completed using landscaping rocks and supplies left over from a home improvement project or kids craft kit.
Tune in to KWQC-TV this afternoon at 3pm CT to see these ideas featured on Paula Sands Live.
What are your favorite boredom busters?
We don’t play games a lot but my son is always ready togo so we should get this game and play as a family cooperative. Doing artsy things is always fun and rocks come in all sizes ready to be painted.
I like anything that gets us off the couch and away from technology. I try to think of creative ways to do that so that we could have a lot of fun without anything in our ears or TV
Those positivity rocks look like a fun craft project for a boring day. I love how people are painting rocks and leaving them around for others to find!
