Learning to watch what we are eating has made me look at everything with a different eye. That was the whole point and a year after starting our journey, I’m proud to say that it is working. I’ve said before that we don’t give up anything, we just moderate how much we eat.

And drink.

While I drink more water than before and less pop or tea, I also slimmed down on other treats. Mocha and coffee drinks are less often, as are alcoholic drinks. I used to be perfectly happy sitting down with a cup of cappuccino, glass of Kahlua and cream, Moscato, ChocoVine or an Amaretto stone sour. Not that I drank often or a lot because I didn’t (factoring out my college years, of course). Now, I have it much less often than before.  Until I get to my goal weight, every calorie is precious!

But I’m always happy to try new foods and drinks and I gladly incorporate new adult drinks into my rotation! While at BlogHer, I received a gift pack from SheSpeaks. The idea was that my roomies and I would enjoy a nice cocktail while settling in for the night. Unfortunately, that didn’t pan out. We were all going non-stop. We seldom said two words to each other before crashing each night. It worked out fine though because the gift from SheSpeaks wasn’t just any cocktail; it was a variety pack of new Arbor Mist Frozen Wine Cocktails. Strawberry White Zinfandel, White Pear Pinot Grigio and Blackbarry Merlot. We didn’t have a freezer in the room so I packed them up and brought them home.

Sure glad I did. I was able to try them in a relaxing environment and really appreciate their tastes. Yes, I tried all three. Shush it. It was required to be able to provide an accurate review.

I don’t know if you realized in my list of favorite cocktails, but they are all sweet. I’m not a fan of dry wines. About the furthest toward dry that I go on the wine spectrum is a Riesling. The closer it is to tasting like a dessert, the better.

Well, let me tell you… These Arbor Mist Frozen Wine Cocktails are exactly that: elegant frozen adult slushies that I would gladly serve as an after-dinner dessert while the kids enjoyed ice cream! You freeze the package then when you’re ready to enjoy it, you pour it into a glass. For me, it was more like a dessert because I enjoyed it slowly with a spoon as opposed to drinking it like a daiquiri or margarita.

How did they taste? The Merlot definitely pushed the taste buds because it still had that dry undertone. The fact it was merlot didn’t bother me because I was consuming it like a gourmet dessert. It’s sweet enough to appease the Moscoto fan like myself but I’m sure my red-wine drinking mom would love it, too. The Strawberry White Zinfandel was delicious and I expected it would be my favorite, but I was pleasantly surprised to gravitate toward the White Pear Pinot Grigio!  Given the choice, that’s the one I would want.

Now get this. Check out the nutritional facts. This is what I can’t figure out.  I’m a label reader now more than ever before. It says one serving is one package with calories varying based on the variety.  Maybe it was because I served it in a small wine glass and ate it slowly that I shudder at the thought of consuming an entire package by myself. Scratch that. Who am I kidding? I could totally see myself drinking the entire thing if I poured it into a large glass, added a straw and had it while chatting with friends.  That’s typically how entire bottles of wine disappear, right?  With friends?

I looked for these while at Walmart today but couldn’t find them yet. I live in Iowa so things make it here MUCH slower than elsewhere, I swear.  These are absolutely delicious and so much easier than pulling out the blender.  They are fast and easy and very conducive to a Bunco night or ladies’ night out.

Just be sure to try all the flavors before you commit to one. If I hadn’t sampled the White Pear, I never would have realized it’s my favorite!

…and drink responsibly… because these taste so good, you may forget you’re drinking alcohol!
